Transferring a Domain Name? Follow This Handy Step-By-Step Plan!

While it may not seem like much, a domain name has significant importance. Even if you have absolutely nailed the right domain name for your business, the quality of service from your hosting provider is another significant factor to consider. Unfortunately, just like a bank account, web hosting services are something that we don’t give much thought to—once you’ve signed up with one, we tend to stick with them no matter what. TRANSFERRING A DOMAIN NAME IS SIMPLE
If you find yourself in a position where your hosting provider is not delivering the features or the up-time needed for your aspiring business, then its time to migrate to a superior level of service. Thankfully, the process of transferring a domain name is simple. The problem is, however, not many businesses know how to go about it!
We have broken the process of transferring domain names into three simple to follow stages.
STEP 1
First, you will need to make sure that the domain name in question is eligible to be transferred to a new hosting provider. In the majority of cases, there won’t be a restriction, unless the domain name was registered less than 60 days ago. If this is the case, you will have to wait until the domain name is older than 60 days before you can migrate to a new provider. There is an exception. .nl, .be and .eu extensions can be moved directly.
STEP 2
Sadly, unlike the best things in life, domain name transfers are not free. The fees involved will vary from one web hosting provider to the next, so make sure you spend some time understanding the cost involved. At the very least, you will need to make sure all payment plans are up to date with your original host before initiating a transfer. Web hosting services may withhold your domain transfer until all payments are settled for the previous registration period.
STEP 3
The final stage is to get an authorization code from your registrar (the original hosting provider). Referred to as an EPP code, it acts as a safeguard against fraudsters who may try and transfer your domain name without permission.
The process for requesting an EPP code is similar no matter who your provider is. Once you have set up an account with your new provider, there should be the option to check incoming transfers. Any issues with your domain transfer will also be communicated here, so during the migration period, it is essential to check the status of your transfer regularly.
MIGRATING A DOMAIN NAME IS AS EASY AS 1,2,3
Transferring a domain name to a new web hosting service really is as easy as 1,2,3.
